Perez Molina Edging Out In Front

This is the front page news on Prensa Libre today with Otto Perez Molina (Partido Patriota) taking the lead over Alvaro Colom (Unidad Nacional de la Esperanza), front runner since the start of the campaign. What's also in the article is that Rigoberta Menchu (Encuentro por Guatemala has slipped to sixth with both Eduardo Suger (Centro de Acción Social) and Luis Rabbe (Frente Republicano Guatemalteco) over taking her.

There's a really interesting discussion from a Guatemalan perspective about Menchu's candidacy (in Spanish) on Rudy Giron's blog Crónicas efímeras.

Luisa, thanks for mentioning my blog Crónicas Efímeras and the entry about Rigoberta Menchú.

I also posted a similar entry under the title Rigoberta Menchú for President in my English-language blog La Antigua Guatemala Daily Photo and left this questions for the visitors: <strong>If you could vote in the next elections in Guatemala, would cast your vote for a woman? for an indigenous person? for somebody from the left (democrat)? would you cast your vote for Rigoberta Menchú? or none of the above?</strong> The answers may come handy.
