Taghmen Energy Plc, UK based oil company, has just given their latest update on their work in Guatemala. Towards the end it says:

"Licence 7-2005 (Tortugas/Atzam) The Environmental impact study has been submitted for approval and clearance to commence operations on Contract A7-2005 is expected shortly."

Assuming it means approval from the Guatemalan government, what the hell goes into this environmental impact study? Is there any consultation with the local community? And why are they so confident that it will get approved? I know, stupid question.
